What is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding (also known as Hydromulching) is a quick, proven and affordable way to establish a thick, luxurious new lawn.  In Washington, including Kitsap county, depending on weather conditions and watering, germination begins in 5-10 days and you'll be mowing your new grass in about four weeks.

Hydroseeding is a process whereby seed, fertilizer, wood fiber mulch and/or other agriculture approved additives (one is a tackifier or bonding agent) are mixed together to form a slurry that is applied by using a state-of-the-art hydroseeding machine to form a uniform application over the soil.

Hydroseeding has also been proven as one of the most effective means of erosion control.

Some of the Benefits of Hydroseeding:

-It's economical, costing less that 50% of a sod lawn.

-It's faster and easier.  We spray-apply a nutrient-rich mix of seeds and 100% pure wood fiber that provide an ideal micro-environment for maximum growth all in one step.

-You'll get a thicker, more uniform lawn- the result of a mat of interlocking fibers creating a micro-greenhouse effect.

-Your lawn will be healthier and last longer because it's grown right at your home- not at some distant turf farm.

-A single application by trained professionals yields superior results the first time.

-Hydroseeding is safe and non-toxic to kids, pets and the environment.

Key questions to ask before accepting a hydroseeding bid:

  • Make sure the seeding contractor is a reputable established company that can provide you with references.
  • Ask your contractor to bid the job using different grades of seed and hydraulic mulch. The quality of materials used can make a huge difference on the final result of the project, so don't focus only on price.
  • Insist on a disclosure on materials used on the project and make sure the materials used are at the rates recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Since hydraulic mulch materials are not all the same, request performance data on material used and options like including tacking agents. (Leading manufacturers and contractors will be more than happy to provide that information upon request)
